Melissa loves spending time with her husband and three children.  In her free time, she enjoys camping, traveling, running, reading, crocheting, doing anything crafty and spending time with friends and family.  Melissa and her family attend Church in the Canton area. She is also a member of the Association for Play Therapy (GA Chapter) and currently receiving supervision and training towards her registry in play therapy.

Vision for Counseling
Melissa frequently utilizes expressive and creative therapies such as art, sand, and play in her work with families and individuals.  Melissa is also trained in integrating Christian faith-based counseling for those that would like to utilize their faith in the counseling process.  Her therapy approach is tailored to each client's individual needs and personality. She is working towards her registry in play therapy and uses play therapy in her work with children as therapy looks different at each developmental stage. It's not until about age 12 that children move from primarily concrete thinking to abstract reasoning and thinking. For children, play is their language and toys are their words.

During the first session, a 50-minute intake interview, we will review the intake forms, gather a detailed history, establish goals for counseling, and answer any questions you may have about the counseling process.  This is a time to determine if the therapist is a good fit for you and/or your family.
